Healty Color

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

The first time I learnt about the toxins that are emitted from the wall paints we commonly use was at a lecture by the Butz Group at a seminar that I attended as part of the SID project in 2018. I remember being shocked and surprised, but I also remember how happy I was to learn that there are many solutions to the problem.

Healty Color

I learned that in most of our interior spaces the air quality is worse than the air quality outside the building.

And that the color of the wall is only one of many variables that affect the air quality inside the space, but it is a relatively cheap and easy variable to change.

In recent years, just as more possibilities for construction with advanced environment and people-friendly materials have become available, so a company like Tambour has adopted lime-based paints that improve the air quality in the home and allow the wall to breathe better and be more flexible than a wall painted with normal color.

The color I’m holding in the picture is the color I painted my house with. As soon as the paint dried in the house there was a pleasant feeling in the space. I hardly smelt anything during the drying period and I am sensitive to smells. In general, I am a sensitive person and I feel a significant change in the space thanks to the color. In addition, I like to paint the walls and the ceiling the same color, and this was easily possible with this color.

To conclude, the next time you paint your house, consider buying lime-based paint. It may cost a little more than normal color, and there may not be the wide range of colors that standard wall colors offer, but this small change will improve your experience in the space and your health in the long run.
